Does a dentist have to have a menue of charges displayed in the reception ?,only our dentist wanted to charge my wife �320 to have a tooth crowned ,seems a bit exesive to me.

A few years ago the NHS decided that they would only fund porcelain crowns on the front (visible) teeth and any crowns on the back teeth would be silver alloy. So if it's a back tooth and your wife wants porcelain then it's actually very cheap as they're usually �500 and up as it would be done privately and dentists can decide themselves how much they want to charge for private treatment.
Front teeth crowns on the NHS are around the price your wife has been quoted. Sometimes a bit less if they don't have to do root canal treatment or rebuild the tooth.
