Projector Presentation

Have just bought small Dell Projector to use for presentations. am trying to use it with my HP Laptop but not finding source. All wires connected and it opens on screen but cant project files/pics. What have I done wrong?

look for a screen icon on the "f" buttons .... (on mine f10)

press and hold the Fn key then tap the f button ... it should cycle screen, screen + projector, projector

Thanks, will look for the f keys in morning, If I go to laptop tonight I will never get to bed. Knew there must be something. Projector inst. said fn and F8 but that didnt work so it must be on different key on HP.
