I have a folder within Docs (Vista) called 2008, just over 7Gb in size. When I delete it, empty the recycle bin and restart the PC it reappears in Docs again. Has anyone ever come across this sort of thing before?

I've seen it with spyware infections.... but I have a hunch here that it's not that.

Does it get recreated with the 7Gb contents still in it?? if so... weird and no idea!

if it appears empty I would guess that you have something running at startup that uses that path as the default for something so it's recreating the folder automatically.

it doesn't reappear with all previous contents, just one or two sub folders and strangely not always the same ones!
Try running a few spyware programs and see if they find anything.

Malwarebytes for example

Also Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware.

Chuck, your answer made me think a little harder and I found the problem. I had moved the default storage folder for Windows Mail to 2008 last year so that a sync of the folder to back up the contents also kept a back up of my email. I don't use windows mail much, so when I started using it again recently it was replacing the folder 2008 and its mail subfolder whenever I restarted the PC. Thanks Chuck, job sorted
