Censorship on the site
11 Answers
I was somewhat surprised to see one of my recent contributions has been auto-censored. The word in question is the relatively inoffensive "bigger", but with a "u" instead of the "i".
I understand censorship of expletives like "f**k" and "c***", because neither is necessary in a civilised conversation and there are plenty of suitable alternatives for discussions of anatomy. On the other hand, where I live, the average seven year old seems incapable of stringing together a sentence without a liberal sprinkling of such expletives.
Some American sites are worse, censoring such words as "t*t" and maybe even "sh*g" (my "*"s, in case of more auto-censoring) into nothing more than a string of ***. Surely, this could seriously hamper any discussion of ornithology. Poorly written and executed censorship protocols mean that even words such as repetition, stitch and superstition are reduced to a string of "***", because they merely contain that highly offensive "t*t".
How much censorship is acceptable? Is the moderator of this site behaving less like an editor and more like a prissy Victorian school-mistress? Am I being too sensitive? Am I fighting for free speech? Do I need another beer? Do I want mayo on my anchovies?
Over to you....

The initial word was "bigger" but with a "u" replacing the "i"
The next quotes refer to "f**k" and "c***"
The American bit refers to "t*t" and "sh*g"
Hope that clarifies.
If you can perform a find and replace, then find " and replace it with a "
And there was me thinking this was going to be easy.
