Where to stay Rome and Florence

I am hoping to go to Rome and Florence in Sept or Oct of this year. There are so many areas of Rome but I am confused as to which area to stay. Any suggestions on the best area nearest the centre would be appreciated. Also best way to get from Rome to Florence and vice versa - fly or train

The best advice to get when looking for hotels, places to visit etc is tripadvisor.com. Just type in Rome in their search and you'll have hundreds of travellers' opinions. I'd say the train is easier as you arrive and leave from the city centres rather than having to get to and from the airports.
