I had a massive boil on the back of my neck which was really painful, however it went down, but it has left a lump, 2 1/2 months later its still there, it does appear to be getting smaller but is taking ages, it doesnt hurt or anything when I touch it, its odd, when I got up this morning it felt bigger, but as soon as I had a shower and got some heat on it it went down a bit, my question is, should this lump still be there after all this time and why does it get bigger/smaller??? Im really worried about it, I have made a doctors appointment, but cant get in till next week, im stressing over it
Not to worry, it might not have been a boil, but an infected sebaceous cyst, in which case when the infection settled, the cyst is felt as a lump. The "remnants " of the infection do not necessarily need further treatment.
Sqad617, maybe you are right, ive just googled it and although the pictures look nothing like what I had (they look appalling!) it explaind that the cysts contains a waxy like substance which when heat is applied it melts, which would explain why it gets smaller after a hot shower....thankyou so much for answering my question, as I have been getting myself in a right pickle over it, and now I dont feel as bad....your a star!
