How to cancel Setanta subscription

I have just spent 6 minutes on the phone to Setanta trying to find out the details of my partners account to cancel the subscription. Then I got put through to the un subsription department where a rather rude woman told me that there was nothing she could do. 8 minutes on the phone and nothing achieved.

His brother is still using the service at my partners previous address and although promising to cancel the subscription the payments are still coming out of my partners bank account.

Has anyone ever tried to do this and succeeded, or alternatively any suggestions?

I wrote them a letter giving them one months notice ( kept a copy ) and cancelled my direct debit at the bank !

Yes ! They didn't want to know me on the phone ! They told me to write to them ...... so I did and just cancelled my direct debit ...... Didn't hear any more off them !

I did exactly the same as teacher1. Cancel the direct debit and they soon get the message.

Thank you. A letter will be in the post tonight. It's a shame people don't know how difficult to cancel these things are before they subscribe.

I cancelled on the phone and did what teacher did, cancel the direct debit.

Sorry - i obviously missed it if you'd posted earlier with more of an explanation to this issue, but the company is absolutely correct to not deal with you over someone else's account, even your husband's... The law (usually the data protection act, but probably many contract laws) and simple ethics would prevent this.

jus a point - if your partner has an account and you cancel the direct debit without him contacting the company to cancel the account, he could well end up in court for breach of contract. Further, just because you cancel the method of payment doesn't cancel the fact that payment has been agreed and is owed until that contract ceases...
