PLEASE drop the 'brigade', shako! Can't we make you see how horrible it makes even the best sentiments? And being horrible to people that don't even want work, or perhaps even life, for sometimes very tragiv reasons, is NOT one of those best sentiments!
most ambulance services offer a voluntary car service - which helps take routine out-patients to their appointments when they can't manage on the buses, trains or with their own cars etc. the ambulance service cover the cost of petrol on expenses.
Many hospitals have a volunteer programme as well - they help out with pts and visitors in the hospitals - or help in the office work sometimes.
what about applying to be an advisor at the citizens advice? they're always looking for intelligent, articulate people to work in a voluntary capacity. or a volunteer at your local hospice, they need all sorts of skills and it's a very social atmosphere, not in the least depressing.
