i bought a car from a private seller for around �700. it had just passed its MOT. when i came to get it serviced the garage said it should never have passed its MOT and is unsafe to drive. can i reject the car and ask for my money back?

As far as i know, no. the mot only guarantees the car is roadworthy at the time of mot, not for a year even tho it lasts for a year. unless the seller did some dilibereate subterfuge (for example, putting 4 new tyres on for the mot then taking hem off after to replace them withbald ones), its not their fault anyway - more the mot testing stations, and your gripe would be with them not the seller. But even then, the above would apply
