My friend has been asked this.
If she is given a book , can she scan it onto a pc. Then can text be changed on it.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Pages of text may be scanned and converted to editable text using an Optical Character Recognition program. I use textbridge to put the text straight into word processor.
BUT beware of copyright. Can be complicated re: what percentage of a book you copy and for what purpose. AND I do not condone plagiarism!

I've found free OCR programs to be somewhat ropey at the best!
I use scansoft paperport for OCR and it great, but also fairly expensive

Also consider the time it will take to scan and OCR an entire book! you'll be looking at a couple of minutes a page, fine for one or two pages, if it's a 700page book your going to be busy for a long time!
