Is my 12 month old in need of a doctors appointment?

Hi all. He has been suffering with a cold recently and over the past 4 days has had a slight fever on and off. His armpits always seem to be hot. He has also been tired associated by yawning throughout the day and much less energy which is unusual for him. One other thing is that for 3 days he has screamed during bath time, particularly when he gets in (it is never too hot).

There are no rashes on his body and he otherwise seems very happy and doesn't complain or grizzle. His appetite is the same and I am giving him plenty of fluid. His nappies are a bit yuky but he eats alot of fruit so therefore never has completely solid poo's.

I have been giving him Calpol and sometimes Calprofen as he seems to be experiencing a particularly painful teething episode lately. I haven't taken him to the doctor yet, should I or is it okay to keep an eye on the situation? TIA

Id say call NHS direct for advice hun.

Any young child that is being given calpol or ibuprofen for more than 48 house (i think) should seek advice from a doctor.

the bath screaming thing may just be because hes feeling poorl and doesnt want the hassle of a bath when feeling tired.

a heavy cold / virus will leave any little one tired. when mine was poorly a few weeks back she was either crying or asleep 24 hours a day for 3 days.

the teething could also be a reason for yukky nappies, but a call to NHS direct will give advice, they may suggest an out of hours GP.

hi mountain i dont think i would be overley concerned i think the cold and the teething are are probably the reason he is yawning through the day as he isnt sleeping as well at night x
I would maybe see how he goes over the wkend and if no improvement give tour g p a ring monday x
however if any worsening over the wkend dont hesitate to ring your local hospital for advice x
hope he soon improves x

be prepared for a wait, sometimes it can take a few hours for them to call back. But they are usually pretty good for advice.

Thanks for your feedback Pizza. He had a bad night last night due to horrendous teething, poor little chap x
