The house might have been in Mudeford but the majority of the filming was definitely Bournemouth as I recognized the areas.

I have a feeling it could be Winchester.  My mum's friend saw people putting flowers down at the site where the main character died in the finale and it was near her house.  Maybe that was just for the episode, i dunno.

I thought it was Kettering, didn't they once have a gag where they thought they were invited to a party but got there and had to cook it because the hosts thought they were in Catering?

No, Kettering is where Margaret's mother lived..

Mudeford, near Christchurch seems to be the place where they lived. I seem to remember reading a David Rendall interview about it..though why would they go to Greece from Luton Airport in the episode when their house burnt down?'

Outdoor scenes were occasionally filmed in Bournemouth, though I don't know whether it was supposed to be 'set' there. 

The scene where Victor was killed was shot at Shawford Railway Station in Hampshire.
