How can i stop my dog from mating with my bitch?

I have a young westie dog and a young westie bitch. The dog tries to mate the bitch but they are both too young to have puppies. I want to breed them when they are older but how do i keep it on hold till then?

I think the only kind way is to keep them apart when she's in season. She would probably only accept him when she's really ready (for about 3 or 4 days in the middle) but the smell of her will have him in a constant state of excitement and frustration!
