Think, take longer to look for bikes.

Has anyone seen this advert, its the one where the guy pulls up and looks briefly at his left and theres nothing there, pulls out and the motorcycle crashes into him. How fast do you think the bike had to be traveling to be out of sight for a quarter mile or more and then in miliseconds he was on the car?

There are no official figures yet published for road casualties relating to last year. September '08 saw the publication of the 2007 report.
The figure of 3,090 children relates to all those aged 0-15 years killed or seriously injured (be they pedestrian, cyclist, on a horse, in a vehicle, etc.) but with no breakdown of vehicle type causing the casualties.
The figures for pedestrians of all ages killed or seriously injured by a single vehicle show:
Car/Taxi - 4,929
Motorcycle - 268 (5.4% of above figure)
The number of motorcyles registered in the UK is around 5-6% of that for cars, a close correlation with the above casualty rate. However, statistically motorcycles are not used as often or do not cover the same distances as four-wheel equivalents therefore the casualty rate to pedestrians per distance travelled is proportionally higher for motorcyles than for cars.

How many motorcyclists have you seen using a mobile while doing 70mph down the M1????
9 times out of 10 incidents where motorbikes are involved it is caused by a dozy motorist. I have witnessed so many near misses where the motorist is to blame. Most, and I do stress MOST bikers ride to within their riding capabilities. The exceptions are usually young kids with more testosterone than brains

I have watched this advert many times as I was sure that the bike was not there in the first shot as the guy pulls up to the junction and looks to his right - it isn't! How can the car driver be expected to see a bike that isn't there and if the bike is speeding, which it must have been any resulting accident would be the bikers fault. I'm sure that the vast majority of bike accidents are caused by the bikers interpreting the highway code in their own manner, making their own lanes where they don't exist, crossing into oncoming traffic, ignoring lights and roadsigns and speeding whilst whipping in and out between cars; not to mention the fools who think they are stunt riders pulling wheelies on public roads, then we can move on to pizza delivery drivers. Need I say more? Perhaps the advertisers should target the bikers not the motorists!
