an anti-virus scan slow a computer down? Ever since I decided to run it my pc is playing up. There is nearly 3 hours to go which may increase but no infected files as yet.

Sounds like a typical problem caused by 2 or more AV programs being on your pc. Norton Av is the very devil - you have to download a patch to rid it from your system - so it may be if you investigate that you have Norton and another program, unintentionally, as many pc's are sold with norton on as standard.
If you have done a recent backup of wanted files, and if you have the disks, do a system restore to get the machine back to its factory settings. But don't do this if there are files you need and haven't backed up as it will lose them.

Have you got two anti viruses running at the same time TB10 as they will conflict with each other and slow your comp down And what anti virus is it the best free one is avg 8 and have you got mailware and spybot search and destroy.

Got it the wrong way round. I'm just over 4 hours into the scan and nearly 5million files and only 16% later the scan is still going. It does look like an all nighter Chucky so I may head off for a soak in the bath in a bit.
