stupid compare sites
5 Answers
Influenced by their TV advertising, I decided to try gocompare.com and comparethemarket.com. Boy, do I wish I hadn't bothered. They don't provide a phone number so you can't talk it through. Instead you have the interminable questionaire. What a palava. Millions of questions, including sticky ones like Business Type which unless you answer exactly to their liking, you have to keep guessing at. I will never ever bother with these stupid sites again, and will always go straight to the insurance companies instead. What are your experiences?

I find them far easier and much more convenient than checking individual Companies myself.
If you go straight to the insurance companies yourself then unless you ring loads of them (costing you a fair amount of time and money) then how do you know you are getting the best deal?

i find the best thing to do is use one of the compare websites through a cashback site like quidco. you get paid for using the compare site, they tell you which are the cheapest insurers, then simply select the insurer who also gives cash back - i just renewed my buildings & contents insurance, used quidco, got 1 back for using confused.com which suggested esure was the cheapest, then bought the policy with esure, again going through quidco who give 45 cashback.
My renewal quote with churchill was 250, using this method my esure quote was 100 cheaper, plus i get 46 cashback. Long live the compare websites!!
