1 cupful Soft Brown Sugar 1 cupful Sultanas 1 Cupful Milk 1 Qtr block Butter or margarine. Slowly bring to the boil stirring with a wooden spoon, once boiling, set aside until tepid. Next - Stir in 2 Cupfuls of Plain Flour Half Teaspoon Baking Powder Half Teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda One level Teaspoon Mixed Spice Add 1 Beaten Egg. Mix well. Put the mixture into a greased small loaf tin (1lb size), and bake in a moderate oven (175C) for about 1 hour. Leave to cool before turning out. You may have to run round the sides with a knife to loosen. Sliced with butter on it's gorgeous. If you decide to try this recipe, I'm sure you will enjoy it. Regards. Schutz.
Thank you so much Schutzengel. I'll be giving it a try for sure as it sounds lovely. Will report back but think I already know that this will be a favourite in our house. Many thanks once again. xx
