Long lost family?
4 Answers
Hi all!
Could do with a few opinions!
Basically my dilema is this...
My father died when i was 7 years old (i'm in my mid 20s now) and since the day of his funeral i have never seen any of the relitives from his side of the family.
Now through Facebook random family members are cropping up out of the wood work. Some have added us as friends and some hasnt.
My sister and i have told our mum about it and she says to not mention her to them and to be carefull as they are all odd. She also said not to bother adding the ones as friends as they havnt bothered with us up until now.
The dilema is that i'm kind of curious as to what they are all like and why they never bothered with us.
What would you do? Appologies for the Facebook references but its crucial to the story!

I kept in contact with my Nan until she died a few years ago, but have only seen my cousins and Aunties and Uncles a handful of times since, but I guess it didn't help that they lived quite a long way away.
I can understand you being curious so perhaps ask your Mum why she says that they are odd. Is she angry that they didn't make the effort to stay in touch or is there more to it?
You could write to a cousin or Auntie that you were close to at one time, and suggest you meet up as you're curious to find out more about your Dad's childhood or their family history, and take it from there?

Hey, give em all a chance, make up your own mind about them, what your mother see's as being odd might not be what you see as odd! Life is too short and if they turn out not to be your cup of tea then you can think again but if you don't give them a chance you'll be left wondering. Good Luck with it anyway. Hope it all goes well. x

Thanks everyone! I shall see how it goes. I think i would like to speak with the family even if it doesnt work out to make my own decision. I know nothing about them and didnt know that some of them even existed.
I guess my mum might be worried as to why they never othered with us in the first place.
