my dog takes off

My dog does every single command we ask . .at home , in garden , out on short lead or flexi lead ... but off lead she just takes off and runs and runs. She is a (work strain ) cocker spaniel. 8 months old.. Any tips welcome...

How often and for how long do you walk your dog? By that I mean on lead walking, it may be she needs longer walks to tire her out, especially before you let her off lead. I presume her recall is good at home, try to find a larger enclosed area free from distraction, take her on a long walk first till she is calm and fully exercised then use reward based training to practice distance recall.

Biscuits always worked a treat with my cocker and knowing that when he is called back its sometimes just for a fuss and cuddle and lots of praise before letting him run again rather than it being to go straight back on the lead.
