Cultural icon - again doubtful, but possibly labeled thus by virtue of the 'romance' of his apparent death, which appeals to the morbid side of every music fan, and we all have one. Alive? i doubt it. Again, the romantic notion that everyone from Elvis to Jim Morrison allows that they simply dropped out of the fame game, and are living quietly elsewhere. I just think they dropped out of the fame game, and that's it.

Genius, probably not. Very talented lyricist though. Most certainly dead, in my opinion anyway. The Manics miss him on so many different levels. Lets face it, their first three albums shone - and everything they've done since hasn't quite lived up to the high standards they set themselves. James and Sean are still providing fantastic musical composition, but we only have Nicky writing the lyrics now instead of Richey & Nicky. When i first heard Kevin Carter from Everything Must Go, i loved it. Thought the Manics without Richey would be ok. Then i looked at the sleeve notes and discovered Richey wrote the lyrics. No wonder i loved it. The Manics are good... just not as good as they could have been.
