Insurers attitudes vary - do you have any pictures of thestolen items - boxes they came in; instruction manuals - these could be used to prove ownership and might be acceptable to the insurer?
Quite a few retailers can confirm purchases using your name and postcode - I have used this for electrical items when I could not find the receipt and they were still under warranty.
There is a principle in insurance called "utmost good faith" which basically means each party accepts the other is honest and each partyy acts honestly to the other -but it is a two way street - and there has been so much insurance fraud recently that insures have to protect themselves (and policyholders premiums)by requesting as much documentary evidence as possible - if the items were fairly new and expensive I would be suspicious if you had not got receipts - but if we were talking about a 10 year old TV it would not be reasonable to expect you to have kept them.
Adopt a positive non threatening attitude - negotiate and hopeflly they will respond in a similar manner.
Good luck

dave, bit different but i had a claim after having a bag stolen in barcelona.
as it had 2 mobiles in it, plus sunglasses, cash, ipod etc, i thought i was stuffed.
i found old credit card receipts for a couple of things, and manuals, instructions for the i-pod, and the only thing i had for the sunglasses was a pic og me on holiday (funny i know) but they were oakleys and cost me nearly 100.
they paid out on the strength of that (bet that pics on their wall now though as a 'mug shot' lol).
have you got any ds game receipts, or manuals etc ? maybe you bought the kids pressies for xmas on a card, which may be enough to convince them.
Bit late now I know, but I always stack em up and take a few pics of the kids wii and DS games just incase
