I need some help ! Made a chocolate sponge for my mates birthday (50th) & It looks really nice, cream in the middle & chocolate icing (& 50 candles !!) It'll probably melt when they light 'em ! But . . . Here's the thing, I've just realised I forgot to take the greaseproof off the bottom of the top layer of sponge !!! Shall I be honest & own up, or shall I plead ignorance ? Perhaps I could fluff it & say it's so she don't eat a whole slice at once as it'd be too fattening !!

it could be easily removed using a jigsaw
lol Debsy oh dear! I would try to lift the top part off and peel it away, you may need an extra pair of hands to help.

Failing that cut the the cake yourself once she's blown out the candles and try to oik the paper out of each portion without anyone noticing and drench it in cream!!!
sorry debsy, but I am laughing, that is just the sort of thing I would do.

My vote is on very gently lifting the top layer and peeling off. The greaseproof paper is going to be kind of chewy otherwise.
I'd try to take it out too as Debsy as suggested. Think it would be easier than doing it when you try to cut it.
