Hello, I am having problems with Mice, up to date I have caught 6 by using traps with Cheese,Chocolate & Peanut Butter. The little sods will now not go to the traps they seem to know,I have seen more droppings near to the traps. To night have had to close my living room off has I have been trying to catch another little sod,I can think of a stronger word to use.
I have 2 cats, and they bring them in and then play with them,so that aint the answer. Poisoning is cruel and dangerous for anything else alive in your house. Use a humane trap with a nice strong cheddar, and release them back outside!
You could use my lazy husbands inadvertent mouse trap. He left some jam on the cooker top after he spilt it adding some to his porridge. This was at suppertime. When we got up in the morning there was a lovely wee mouse stuck in the jam after it had decided to have a midnight snack. We just peeled it out of the jam and put it outside to lick its feet clean!
We normally just use traps in the loft, but only get a few - fortunately I am not scared of mice, they are not house trained though and I would rather not have nmouse poo and wee all over the house.
We have a cat now so we haven't had any this winter - nothing but us humans is allowed to stay alive now - that includes all insects and plants!
I would maybe just get a few new traps that are a different design to see if that does the trick. ice-cream is supposed to be good to attract them as well.
i have always had no problems with chocolate or peanut butter either,
it maybe after catching 6 mice and you picking up the traps and resetting them you have put your scent on them and made them smell "human" so the mice avoid them, as in an earlier answer i would just wash thetraps in fresh water with no detergent just to clean them up a bit and remove the scent and put them back in the places where you have caught them before
We are having problems with the little bu99ers as well .
We tried traps and caught a few - but they seem to get clever after a while and keep away .
Next we tried sticky pads , which they get stuck to , when they walk over it . Seems thay are also getting wise to that as well , although touch wood , there dont appear to be as many of them as before
In response to nonomaybe's question - apparently they can squeeze through a gap , the width of a pencil
This will be my last view on this. If you are having persistent problems with rodents then it is very important to ensure that no food is available to them in your house.
Without casting any aspersions you need to make sure that nothing is available to them in your kitchen. Mop up any food spills and wipe down surfaces and do not leave any food around.
If they are staying long-term then they are obtaining something of benefit and if you ensure that nothing is available then they will move on.
I'm a professional pest controller and I would recommend you get a 'pro' in (obviously I am biased, but if you want results...)
Mice can and do gnaw through electrical wires - 15% of house fires are due to rodents chewing wires! make sure you use a good anti bacterial detergent if they have been in your kitchen - they carry all sorts of diseases including Salmonella.
You should be looking to find there access points - where are they getting into your house? Have someone do a survey and rodent proof your home.
Poisoning is the most effective means of control - but as someone said earlier you may find yourself with an unpleasant smell ( we provide strong odour eaters to solve this problem ), the smell usually subsides within four to five days anyway.
Regarding your traps, mice are inquisitive creatures and are not known to become 'trap shy', is there another food source for them. If they have a ready supply of food they will simply run past your traps.
