No Insurance?
So today I was driving my friends car about 0.3 of a mile to a car park, as he had to jump out we switched seats or would be late for an appointment. Driving along suddenly the immobiliser kicks in and the car stops dead in the middle of the road. The police came and asked me why I was stopped I said its my friends car I dont know how to get it to start.
They asked me if I have insurance I sed yes I have fully comp on my car which I do and he has fully comp on his (the one I am driving)
Get home read my policy realise it doesnt say cover for other vehicles..oops!
So am I screwed? no criminal records, clean licence, never had producer before, wouldn't have done it if I didnt think fully comp gave third party for other vehicles.
What am I looking at? points fine/ban?

Just feel a bit hard done by never intentionally broke the law, been tarred with same brush as somebody who willingly drives round with no insurance everyday. I have fully comp on my car, he has on his. I was only driving it to a car park (0.3 miles away per google) so he didn't have to walk from the car park to his interview.
Still the law is the law I guess.

Hi Shukes:
Unfortunately, the fact that you drove on a public road is your downfall, regardless of it being a third of a mile or fifty miles. That's not my view, it's simply the law.
I sympathise that you were doing a mate a favour and if you get a summons to go to Court, I'd certainly at least mention that to the Magistrates. You never know, it might soften the blow a bit.
It might also help if your mate also went to confirm your story, not that it changes what happened but it sounds to me that it's the least he could do.
I can't see you being banned but points (at least 3, prob 6) and a fine (perhaps your mate could go halfs?).
Sorry I can't do better than that. Good luck.
P.S. Don't forget to go to the nick with the producer and take what docs it specifies, even your insurance certificate although it didn't cover you for your mate's car.

I'm going to go to the police station tomorrow morning with all the documents I have.
I will have a look at my friends insurance as well before I go to produce my documents see if it mentions anything there, although I feel I'm clutching at straws with this one.
I will post back with the outcome tomorrow. Thanks for the help guys!

oh ****** another one for the guillotine me thinks! why daint ya say ya mate left ya with car you plonkcarrr?? as they daint see you driving they cant prove it was you who drove it. At least i think so anyhow its 6-9 points for no insurance, speak wiv you comp to see if you have anycar cover, as sometimes they do not list but sell you at inception. Hope things work out for the better!
Well I took my documents to the police staton today, the officer in the station looked at my insurance certificate and kindly pointed out that my insurance although fully comp did not say it covers driving other vehicles.
I then told him that it did not actually say that it didn't cover other vehicles, and that as far as I was aware fully comp means driving other vehicles is covered.
The officer copied my documents and said I will get a letter in the post soon so I'm assuming that will give me details of my points and fine. Im assuming 6 points as first offence and looks like I just have to wait and see how big the fine is hopefully it's not too big.

You can expect 6 points and a 200 fine, there is more info here:

"Jobsworth police...both of you are insured yet they give you a producer"
Am I missing something here?! If Shukes was properly insured we wouldn't be discussing this. I don't dispute this may be an unfortunate oversight, the 'jobsworth' police have caught another unsinsured driver.
