ive just had a disagreement with customer srevices at my local store, i wanted to exchange a faulty item and they said that unless i give them my name address and phone number that they wouldnt exchange it!!!! i refused and they said they refuse to exchange, i finaLLY GOT MY WAY, WHAT A BLOODY CHEEK!!

This is quite common practice on cash refunds, not sure of the reasons why but it's not for spamming, I've given my details to a few shops and never been sent anything. When I worked at TKMaxx we had to ask customers details but they coud refuse and we just wrote that on the receipt, never refused a refund because of it!
They never ask your name and address when you're buying it though..
I think it is to give them the possibilty to check, in case they suspect their staff are involved in some sort of refund racket.
Good point PB I always thought it might be incase you kept returning so much and they thought you were stealing it or wearing it and returning it

it wasnt for a refund it was an exchaange, i think they got fed up with me in the end as they said ok this once!!! that was big of them!!
