My desktop CPU meter is showing a RAM usage of 65% even when the pc is sitting idle, why is that?

Have you looked at the task manager to see which processes are using the RAM?

where on the task manager is the ram usage?
Click the processes tab, maximimse the page and it is next to cpu. It is the 'mem usage'.

the total running is circa 100.000K
The indication at the bottom shows 56%
Do you think that some of my Ram is faulty?
I don't know. How much RAM should you have?
Did you look at the column and see what processes are hogging your resources?
There's nothing strange about this.

Your computer (you don't note operating system so I assume XP or Vista) will not remove stuff from RAM when it's stopped being used. It'll only be removed if enough new things have to be loaded in.

Restart your computer, and without opening any programs, check the RAM usage. Also, how much RAM do you have? 512MB, 1GB?

If you then start up a resource-heavy program like a game or Photoshop, then you'll find the RAM usage will increase.
