My car s five and a half years old ..19000 miles on the clock. service manual says renew timing belt at 50000 miles or which comes firs meaning the age of the car
I have changed hundreds of cambelts over the years and have never bothered about the five year interval unless there are other issues such as fluids or other contaminents affecting the belt. BUT, if the belt breaks for any reason you will be facing a hefty bill for repairs so you will have to weigh up the cost of belt replacement (and peace of mind) against the cost of major engine surgery.Sorry to be ambiguous but that is the nature of motor repairs.best wishes,Paul.
Thank you very much Paul. I intend to remove the belt top cover which is easily accessable and turn the engine over by hand to inspect the belt for cracks/deterioration before making a final decission. Thanks again for your help, it is greatly appreciated . S.O.G.
