Car Hire

We need to hire a car for 6 days but we don't have a credit card, just a debit card. Does anyone know of a company that would allow us to hire a vehicle? The problem seems to be that when you go to pick the car up you have to have a credit card in the name of the person who will be driving. Help!!

have you tried smaller independent firms? You dont get flashy cars but they generally (when i last hired) accepted a cheque in lieu of cc payment. I just looked them up in the yello pages and they were a local firm with ordinary cars (ie fiestas etc)

A debit card should be fine. We dont have credit cards only debit cards and we've rented numerous vans over the years for moving house and office.

All they do is charge an amount to the card then reverse the transaction afterwards if there's no damage. Any rental company should be able to do this with debit cards as well as credit cards. As I say, we've never had a problem.

Hello Twenty20.... Could you let me know the name of the company who are prepared to accept a debit card please?
Even after trying virtually everyone listed on the net - no one seems to accept a debit card.
