Having just read Q, am shocked that Hindu Times didn't make it into their top 50 Albums of 2002. What are your top ten albums of the year?

INPO

The Coral

PRML SCRM - Evil Heat

Aphex Twin - Drukqs

Lambchop - Is a Woman

Boards of Canada - Geogaddi

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Yanqui Uxo

X-Press 2 - Muzikizum

Eminem - The Eminem Show

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

Streets - Original Pirate Material

PS - Hindu Times, while better than the last two efforts, was still poor and unimaginative plod-rock in the main. Oasis have never, and I don't think will ever, recaptured the brilliance of the debut album and some of the b-sides to the earlier singles which is a shame as I used to really rate them.

I couldn't disagreed more about Heathen Chemistry (spot the deliberate mistake in my question!), while I agree that the two preceeding albums hardly set the world alight (certainly compared to their first two albums) Heathen Chemistry is a great album. As a result of the poorly received Be Here now and SOTSOG I feel that people have written off their latest album (and possibly the group) without actually listening to it properly. I would love it if people actually listened to Albums before forming an opinion or worse still "borrowing" someone elses! not that I am suggesting you have Bobbobley, but I know plenty of people who dissed it, but on closer questioning in fact had done nothing more than hear Hindu Times (which is not a great track) on the radio. btw bobbobley have you signed yourself up to be plastinated yet!!!!?

Doh! that should of course be Heathen Chemistry not Hindu Times!
It's been slim pickings as far as I'm concerned. In my opinion the contenders are, Badly Drawn Boy - Have you fed the fish, Supergrass - Life on other planets, David Bowie - Heathen, Red hot chilli peppers - by the way, U2 - greatest hits 1990 - 2000, Elvis Costello - when I was cruel,Primal Scream - Evil heat, Paul Weller - Illumination and Moby - 18
I haven't bought ten new albums this year! The best album of the year so far is Lambchop - Is a Woman. I also enjoyed The Handsome Family - Twilight, Delgados - Hate, and The Bees - Sunshine Hit Me.

i have heard the album (but didn't notice yer deliberate mistake with the title) and just thought it wasn't as good as it could have been, or as they used to be. I know most bands struggle to maintain the same level of output but I felt that it was mediocre at best. sorry

PS - was very tempted! good exhibition, very thought-provoking, and, with the foetus section, a bit disturbing too.

Not sure what has happened to the answer order here.... I rated my correction so it would appear at the top and now nothing seems to be listing chronologically...

Other fave albums this year.... Doves - the last broadcast; The Crescent and The Coral's eponymous albums. Have to agree with Q that About a Boy was Badly Drawn Boy's better album this year, Coldplay - Parachutes and parts of Martin Grech's CD (who's name I can't remember despite the amout of discussion about it on this site!! was it Open heart zoo?)

On every album there will be some songs which aren't as good as the others, and while I like both Hindu Times and Stop crying your heart I would not say the are great songs, little by little, while not having the most outstanding lyrics is a great song and there are others on the album. I agree with Bobbobley that the first two albums and The Masterplan will almost certainly be Oasis' best work but I think Heathn Chemistry deserved better recognision that's all. Everybody should of been made to go and see them live......outstanding!
My best albums of the year (INPO) are Avril Lavigne 'Let Go' / Badly Drawn Boy 'About A Boy' / Counting Crows 'Hard Candy' / David Gray 'A New Day At Midnight' / Michelle Branch 'The Sprit Room' / Moby '18' / Norah Jones 'Come Away With Me' / RHCP 'By The Way' / The Coral 'The Coral' / Vanessa Carlton 'Be Not Nobody'. God, I'm surprised I actually got 10....I didn't think there was so much good music this year..hmmm.
My most listened to album from this year is Custom Blue - All Follow Everyone, but at the moment I'm listening to Simian's 'We Are Your Friends' a lot. They should both appeal to a lot of tastes!
