Howdy, I have shoulder length straight hair which is very fine. I have been using loreal elvive for about a year as suggested by someone from this site - which up to recently has been ok. But now my hair has become ridiculously flyaway and has as always it gets greasy toward the end of the day. I wash and condition every day and I dont use any other products in my hair. I have tried many different shampoos etc like tresemme, head and shoulders, mop, tommy guns, herbal esscenses etc... But to no avail. If it works well I dont mind spending a bit more than usual. I just want to have freshly washed light feeling hair all day - any hair dressers or people who have been in the same boat who can advise?
A lot of adult shampoos have silicone this is fine for processed hair but not good for natural hair. If your hair is natural, no color or perm, look for a non-silicone shampoo - supermarket 'own brands' will do.
I remember a hairdresser saying to me once that you should spend as much as you can afford on shampoo and conditioner as the expensive ones are definitely the best.
Don't know if this is true as I can't afford them myself!
using the same shampoo for a while allows it to build up residue which makes it seem greasy .change to a different shampoo for a while and that sorts it out as it removes the residue from the last one-it works i promise!
I have recently stopped using elvive for the very same reason, and started using dove shampoo and conditioner,my hair feels back to normal plus,at the moment it is on offer at Asda for 1,I think using a particular shampoo for quite a while does take it's toll.
I used to work in a hair salon and the salon shampoos are the best for sure. Hair builds a 'resistance' to products sometimes and you have to change. Personally I have 3 different brands and alternate otherwise I find that my hair ends up lank - I also shampoo and condition everyday. Redken is great (not sure if you get it in the UK - I am in South Africa) Using very hot water to rinse your hair can also contribute to oiliness.
