You think radio stations PAY to play songs? HAhahahahaha. Record labels PAY radio stations to PLAY songs. Although paying radio stations to play songs directly is illegal. They pay promoters who pay radio stations to play songs. The radio stations get a list of songs handed down to them. They are only allowed to play the songs on this list. This way, the music industry can control what gets played and force manufactured pop music down your throats, While most talented musicians, singers, etc. get blocked out of the industry and end up in a dead end job that they hate. The music industry is a business, Businesses want to make money, not a good product. Whatever they see marketable they produce millions of clones of it and play it out until the public get sick of it then the next thing comes along. Thats why all these rappers and "r&b" singers are all the same. Its the fault of the music industry, They see that talk about guns and violence sells, and if you dont fit that image of a 'gangster' and have marketability then a record label wont even THINK about signing you. But yea, the reason you hear the same songs are because record labels buy plays, because the more a song is played the more it will sell. If you dont like it, turn off the radio or do something about it :)
I also hear people talking about why most albums only have 3-4 "good" songs. This is because 99.999% of sales come from SINGLES. So they make 3-4 "good" songs, then about 8 'filler' songs that are just to fill the album up because nobody would buy an album with 4 songs. Why would they put 12 good songs on album when they could split that across 3 albums and make 3 times as much ?
Scott: From what I can see, the Q posted above was infact Lyrics, to a Song... and STW was trying to find the title to it, without directly asking us (The Joke?) To the everyday reader it was just seen as a sarcastic message about Radio Playlists, but to the smarty above, they figured out it was infact lyrics to a song! Well Done!
