Arum Lillies have disappeared

Last year I was given a pot of flowering Arum lillies. . When they died back in Autumn I transferred them to my flower border, planting them generously in compost. . Unfortunately they seem to have disappeared. Nothing is sprouting yet and as all the Cuckoo Pint in my garden (distant relatives I believe) is sprouting strongly I wonder whether the bulbs have rotted. Or do they just sulk when replanted? How long should I leave it before poking around and investigating?

I shall assume that you are in the UK. and I recall that it has, generally been a colder winter than usual.Going by the description of your actions, you may have transferred the lilies too late so that they never had a chance to settle in before the winter came along. I hope it is not the case cos I remember they are strong-growing, showy pants but remember they do like their moisture, i.e. if you have a boggy bit of border, put them there.

I've got some in pots and I did worry that the cold weather had killed them off, but they are still there and beginning to sprout, but they are very slow to get going so far, some that I have under cover are much further advanced and full of dark green healthy looking leaves whilst the ones in the pots are very pale. also as it has been quite wet, yours may have stuck their nose through, but been a tasty snack for slugs and snails - sorry

Thanks for your replies. I also planted a couple of these bulbs in another pot and planted them out elsewhere in the same border. They too seem to have vanished without trace so it looks as if the snow and cold have done for them.

Squirrels used to steal every sort o bulb that I planted - chicken wire helped . If there is nothing at all left in the pots I would take a bet that some form of vermin has had them.
