I went in the shop 'Blacks' and they have a sale on at the moment upto 50% off I got a good jacket was 99 now 44 really nice with a big hood, hoods never fit me even as a lady I have a big head and big hair but this is great, its weeing down right now so it will get some good use.

Blacks can give you all the advice plus the cards on the jackets tell you what you need to know. I always look for inside pockets big collars that can zip up and velcro or popper up. I think the jackets that have the zip with a flap as well on the out side that velcros or fastens down is extra protection. Breathable is you dont sweat too much. And importantely you can fasten up zip up properly try them all if you struggle to zip it up dont get it. I dont know if compact-ablity is important you may want a lightweight roll up put in your rucksack style?

I wouldnt say any make is ness better that the others they all have different types of jacket and styles it depends what fits you better. But I wouldnt buy a cheap one from a cheap shop, a proper outdoor activities stockest is always the best.
Depends how much you want to spend, but cost isn't always an indicator of quality. You can't really go wrong with The North Face, Berghaus, Sprayway and any of the top proper outdoor sports names, having said that, I have a little cagoule that I bought in C&A's about 20 years ago and still use it because it packs down really small and it has never let in a drop of water!

This looks a good buy - you can't beat Goretex for breathability.

I have found most horseriding coats are quite good.
Try Wynster ( think thats how you spell it???) they do a range of jackets and coats that are water proof and windproof, bought mine for 10.00 and it is now about five years old!! and still keeping me dry, have even put in the washing machine as it is very lightweight.
