A lot of the dvd/vcr combinations are video for recording off tv and dvd, but the dvd is playback only. While Bush have been around for years they aren't considered to be a top make (they're on par with Ferguson, Alba, etc).
DVD players don't cost a lot, and vcr's are very cheap now for good ones. You can get a dvd recorder later on if you wish. I bought a vcr from Lidl (I think �89) a year or two ago and have had no problems with it. It is AKAI with LP/SP, Nicam stereo, 6 head, PDC, Videoplus, 2 scart sockets (rear) and AV3 at front (3 phono plugs.. red, white, yellow), remote control, etc.
