When my Uncle was in a similar position a few years ago. he contacted the Social Services and explained. They sent a S ocial workerto see him, then followewd an Occupational therapist who assessed the situation and arranged for the installation of of an electrically operated bath seat to raise and lower him into the water.
This was great for a few years until a further stroke left him unable to climb into the bath , they all came back again and arranged with his agreement the insallation of a walk in shower .Th e work was done by a builder they recommended and was excellent.
Because of his financial position he was required to make a contribution to the cost involved , and this was calculated by a finance person from the local council who assessed his benefits and the modest savings he had.
He used the shower regularly without any problem.
He passed away at the end of last year at the ageof 90, and he reckoned theshower had saved him from going into residential care .He kept his independence, as a single man until the end, which was what he wanted.
