Hi slaney ... I wonder as the clue states NOT half threatening if the word play is actually mina(cious) rather than mina(tory), although this doesn't affect the solution. (S)

Evening sarumite.. in the other cryptic clues I've seen with this wording , "not half" is usually taken to mean that half the word is missing... but as you say it doesn't affect the clue.
