When on Sky, I press TV Guide button and it comes up superimposed on a still picture of a man - how can I get rid of this background picture, as it is difficult to read the text?

It's a video memory fault, the still image of a man is a video frame retained in memory instead of the correct TV guide blue background. Unplug the box, leave it a couple of minutes then re-boot it.
