How do I qualify as a Dance Teacher
3 Answers
Can anyone explain how to qualify as a dance teacher? I have searched through the websites of the IDTA, BATD, BTAD, NADT, CDET etc etc but none of them explain how I would qualify through them as a dance teacher.
I have passed exams through the ISTD in tap, ballet, modern and national upto their old Intermediate level and could train to teach through them but they have changed the syllabus since I last danced so I will have to start again from scratch learning the new exercises. It also seems like a lot of messing about doing their FDI and CDE qualifications as a lot of the work seems to be repeated.
I wondered if it would be easier to try another organisation like the IDTA if Im going to start learning a new syllabus.

Only teachers with qualifications from one of those four awarding bodies can register with CDET and enter candidates for its examinations.

Thanks for your reply.
As I read those links, each of the relevant bodies requires you to take a specific (dance) teacher training course. It wouldn't matter if you'd passed every single (non-teaching) dance exam possible, starred in the Royal Ballet, partnered Michael Flatley in Riverdance, won the World Flamenco Dancing Championships and choreographed Cats. If you've not taken a teacher-training course, you can't qualify as a dance teacher.
If you tick the 'Teacher application pack' box here, and complete the form, BTDA will send you further details:
http://www.btda.org.uk/contact1.htm
For the BBO information, phone the number in my link above.
The RAD seems to only offer 'on campus' teacher training, with the exception of these two distance learning courses:
