I don't think your westie will come to any harm. My jack russell has caught several birds including wood pigeons, doves and a few smaller birds. I am always running out into my garden to scare birds away if he is stalking them, he is worse than a cat in that he loves to go after birds. He has also caught field mice, rabbits and a squirrel. My friends saluki is always catching rabbits when we are out walking and he has not been sick either. Its just a sad part of nature I think

thanks. am not too worried now, as he has not been sick & is still bouncing about. was freaked out at first, but now i'm strangely proud...thats my boy!
My daft collie will eat anything! He doesn't catch them himself, but one of my young cats is a terrible bird killer (I've taken all sorts of measures to stop her, but she still gets the odd one) - trouble is, she doesn't eat them and just leaves the poor wee things lying around. Jake found a dead siskin at the weekend and promptly devoured it! No ill effects, though. K
