Two gripes I have to get off my chest..
Am currently visiting Mr ES, he's in hospital having a long awaited removal of a tumor and they have closed many wards but ours is open for one hour in the evening. However the rules are: 3 to a bed and yet constantly there are 4 or 5 plus grandchildren, no wonder more bugs are coming into the hospital. Why don't they stick to the rules and not allow children in the wards at all, they never used to?

My other gripe is that there is a very elderly gentleman in the same ward, who has dimensia, not his fault, however, he constantly throws his poo into the middle of the ward. Surely this cannot be expected of the nurses to have to put up with and certainly not healthy for patients that are ill in the same ward. He is not ill just old and has nowhere else to go. This is wrong surely . What does anyone else think?

Eyeshade....this is a Third World Health Service in many areas and has been for so long now.
Unfortunately UK citizens have only known the NHS and any political party which suggests that reforms are needed will never get into office.
In certain areas NHS is excellent, but so it should be considering the amount of money that is fed into it.
he may not go back into the same ward after his op.the nurses are there to look after the dementia patient and that includes cleaning up faeces, maybe they are waiting for a bed in the geriatric unit, hope everything goes well for your hubby
eyeshade,
I feel really sorry for your situation. I have'nt needed to go in to hospital lately apart from a & e. Sounds terrible, I hope your husband is soon on the mend & back home with you xxx
Too many people who "work" for the NHS believe that it is there for their benefit. The fact that there have to be patients to justify the NHS's existence seems to be an annoyance that they have to put up with, but ignore as far as possible.
rollo....if only the problem was that simple.
Shortage of nurses, doctors, ancillary staff, plus appalling management in many cases seems to be a good focus on which to start.
Indeed. I was mainly referring to the managers/administrators/accountants.

The managers set the the ethos. The nurses have to follow that. The doctors are not concerned with what happens when they are not there.
The doctors are still a powerful body, believe me and would not respond to any "ethos" set by the administrators.

It is a nationalised industry, each sector having the same pay structure with no financial incentive to improve.

e.g Staff Nurse in Op's gets the same pay as staff nurse in Intensive Care....stupid, but the Unions will not have change.

NHS is a monster to administrate.

Well, poor dimensia man is still on the same ward although he seems to be stable at the moment, but still managed to bruise an entire arm of one of the nurses yesterday. He grabs hard and won't let go! Hubby is quite poorly though through lack of sleep and pain but I have no doubt and every faith he will be up and about soon. I was quite exasperated at the time and annoyed to think everyone suffers all round.
