Water stains on polished surfaces

We have a polished table which has been left with a water mark from a bottle. Is there anything I can buy to take out this stain or do I have to get a French polisher?

Similar thing happened to a friend's piano.  She was told to very gently go over the mark with a clean rag dipped in metal polish.  Then wipe off and polish as normal.  It worked.  Not suggesting it's bound to work on your wood, so try a small area first.

An old wives tale is to rub the area with a cut half of a walnut.  The natural oils in the nut will restore some stains but it depends on the surface.  I have tried it in the past and it worked sometimes.

if its a white ring, its water trapped in the polish. Using a cigarette lighter you can carefully heat the discolouration with the flame and it should start to disappear. Be carefull not to burn the wood though.

Nuts (brazil & Walnut) are a great way to hide small scratches and marks, you can even use a crayon sometimes, if its the right colour.

In Robert Dyas, I have seen something called something like ring remover and it claims to get these out (not sure what kind of drinks)...could be worth a look?

ps - i'm not sure what kind of surfaces that was for so could be best to ask in there first.

My grandmother used to use white vinegar on a soft cloth. as the others have suggested though try it out on a non showing part first
