I have just bought a wooden chopping board and it is untreated. Do I need to treat it and, if so, what should I use please?

We've some moss that took a lichen to a tree. If it was a palm tree you'd have a hand full, no? But I do have frond memories of some palms... Exactly what conifer tree is it?
