I want to build some raised beds in my garden, can anyone suggest a good/reasonably priced material to form the walls? Railway sleepers are so expensive these days and of course they are soaked in creosote. I want to build at least 4 beds 2'6 x 6' approx.
I have several that are 36" X10'... I used ground contact approved 2'' X 8'' X10' ACQ lumber. One board will cost about $8.00 U.S.D. here in the western U.S. Simple to make and very long lived...Creosote is not recommended at all, and the green treated wood (if it's still available) has arsenic as part of the treatment. The ACQ is a pleasant bronzish tint...
Doing some at the mo madmaggot - and using Wickes decking. 8' x 6" x 1" approx - it was on offer at 3.49 til last Sunday but hubby tells me it is now 3.99 a length, usually 4.99.
It's good and sturdy and actually looks fab.
