I have a slow growing conifer and noticed that it has lots of dark brown mainly down one side. On close inspection it looks like tiny dead flowers or mini-cones, not like the leaves are dying and brown leaves. Could anyone tell me what it is ?

It looks like one of the chamaecyparis family and it's only doing what comes naturally.........flowering/fruiting.

Thanks, I'm glad its not dying. But why are the 'flowers' dark brown and crispy and dead-looking ? There were no 'proper' flowers on it, before this happened.
Cos that's their way of doing things.
P.S. they will be distributed by various means; wind, bird animals where they will germinate(we're thinking mainly in the wild!) and lo' and behold before you know it there is a forest!!
