I think that the latest research has shown that birds do have colour vision, but nothing like we humans experience.  Birds actually see UV light so see colour differently to us.

I'm glad you asked that ?, hotair, as it is something that has been niggling me for years (I kept lovebirds for a very long time) but it is one of those things that I just never got round to looking up - well, not until now. Thankyou!

Colour . that's why the male of the species in usually brightly coloured ... for mating rituals!  The hens are dowdy coloured for camo reasons .. to protect the eggs when nesting.
