When the big dog lies down to chew a bone, the puppy generally picks up its own bone, climbs on top and starts chewing. What's all this about?

The pup will have learned that being close to its mum means safety, so a larger dog will represent the same feelings - a warm body and an adult smell will mean he is safe to chew his bone in peace.
This will stop when he gets bigger - if your big dog doesn't object, and they usually don't, just leave them to it.
