To help my boss and set precedence for other depts. I've recently volunteered ( nothing in writing) as didn't want it to become "implied" to working a 4 day week. Said I'd do 3 months/ review etc... Still cram 5 days in working longer hours - thats another story but do.... HR recently said I would'nt get my full paid leave entitlement . I'm near to retirement age 6 years off pension so in addition to "volunteering" final pensionable salary is affected if long term... If things are so bad I'd rather be given early retirement but they have said "off the record" due to amount of work I do "no chance"... Been with company 19 years so no chance of redundancy either due to pay out... Again told this off the record. What am I doing wrong / what should I do, I feel a bit of an injustice paid for 4, doing 5 days and being penalised in terms of holidays Thanks for advice

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.sorry, but YOU are the one doing over your hours, so just dont do it! of course if you cut down your hours, you cut down your holiday (although if you take it in weeks it'll still be the same amount of weeks, just less days because you work less days). Similarly, if you get paid less because you aredoing less hours and you are in a final salary pension scheme, you will of course lose out as your final salary will be less.
You are not being penalised at all. if all part itme workers got the same holiday and pay and benefits as full time workers, no-one would work full time would they?
You ahve 2 solutions
1) go back up to five days a week
2) stay at 4 days but take the hit in terms of pay, pension and holiday but only work 4 days!
