Linksys Easylink Advisor

I just swapped out my Edimax router for a Linksys.
As they don't tell you the address to get to the config page, I had to use the installation CD (BTW, that doesn't work unless you've configured your network connection for an automatically assigned address).

Anyway, I've finally got it all working, and discover I now have a tray icon called "Linksys Easylink advisor". If I open it it gives me a selection of buttons that I can use to generate various error messages (such as "Platform not installed", "Unable to create instance"). It's very entertaining, but I can't really see the point.

Can anyone tell me:
What's it for?
Does it matter if I uninstall it?

I have never used any of the "helpers" provided (stubborn snobbery I know - but I just don't)

I've used a lot of linksys networky things though - and never had a problem without

Lightning, but only indirectly.

After my wireless router got destroyed by lightning, I replaced it with an old non-wireless one, but people keep turning up with problems with their laptop wireless connections, so I finally got round to getting another wireless router.

My old routers were accessed through 192.168.2.1

Since having the new earth installed, together with the additional Gas Discharge Thingies, I've had (touch wood) no problems with the lightning - although that could be because I've also stopped posting blasphemous remarks in Religion and Spirituality...

Just a note (you probably know anyway): usually the address to get the web-based settings page is the same as the gateway address (assuming you're connecting via ethernet first).
