Frankie's been shot.

My gorgeous ginger tom Frankie became ill and listless last night, so trip to emergency vet. Kept in over night and given pain killing injection and antibiotics. No better this morning. Very high temperature which wouldn't come down, so this afternoon he was sedated and x-rayed, and an air rifle pellet was found lodged in the wall of his abdomen. Fortunately it appeared to have missed his vital organs. He was operated on this afternoon to remove the pellet which had set up an infection. Latest news, he has survived the operation but is still very ill. So will be staying at vets for the time being. The police are going to collect the pellet from vets so that they can identify the type of air-rifle used. Hoping for a full recovery, but the worrying thing is there are small children who live next door, plus other pets around our small, rural, and very quiet cul-de-sac. How sick can some people be, it's beyond me. Some hooligan on the loose with an air-rifle is scary, and I hope for the animals and childrens sake that the person responsible is soon caught.

We brought Frankie home this afternoon, but he is still one very poorly puss. He is lying in his basket sleeping at the moment. He has to be hand fed because he's not interested in food yet. His temperature is nearly down to normal, but he has to stay on 4 different kinds of tablets, twice a day, at least until Tuesday next week, when we have to take him back to the vet again. He isn't allowed out, although he isn't likely to want to for a while yet. It will be a bit difficult with two other cats in and out the cat flap, when Frankie feels a bit better, but will cross that bridge when I come to it. The vet is happy with the progress so far, but stressed that although he is still quite poorly, he will be better in his own surroundings. And so will I. All Frankie wants to do is sleep, which will help him recover.
Although I'm still worried about him, I do feel better just for having him home. If there is any change at all in his condition, I have to phone the vet and get him there immediately, so it looks as if we're not out of the wood yet but are getting there slowly. Thanks a million to everyone, you've all been great, and I don't know what I would have done without you. Much love to all. Schutz.

So pleased to hear that you have him home schutzengel. I am sure he will recover better for being in his own surroundings with familiar smells and voices and you will be better for it. I hope he continues to improve although it is likely to be slow, poor little man. Sending him, and you, a cyber hug

hi so pleased he has been able to come home now, the hard work starts issy was a week before she would eat and i ended up syringeing food into her ,she wouldnt pee or poo for days and i was a complete nervous wreck for at least a fortnight but she got there in the end our vet was very good and i phoned them every time i was in a flap ,i am sure he will be fine in a few weeks do keep us updated and we are all here if you need us .love ruth
Hi Ruth. The hard work has already started. Frankie was very good about having the 4 tablets this evening, I suppose it's because he is so used to having 2 a day for his epilepsy. The hand feeding was a different matter, and it was quite a performance to get him to eat enough, he kept spitting it out, and most of it ended up on his chest. (It's special high protein stuff from the vet to build him up again, but probably doesn't taste as nice as his usual food). So it's a bib for him in the morning. :-)
I'm so glad that Issy made a good recovery, and your explanation of your trials is very encouraging. Much love. Sheila.

Hello Schutz, posted on your other thread but want to say again how good it is to hear that you've been able to take Frankie home. It's the best place for him as he'll feel so much less stressed being in his own surroundings it can only help to aid his healing. Hope it's not too long before he's eating properly and is up and about.
Give him a little kiss and a gentle pat on the head from me.
