I have text messages from Jan, that are extremely important evidence for a court case. Prob is, my phones (samsung) receiver has gone, I cant get a signal. I have bought a new phone, if I remove my sim card and put into my new Sony Ericsson, will my text messages still be stored in my old Samsung?

I rang my network and they said Yes, its the phones memory that keeps the texts, but because these are vital evidence I'm still not convinced and a bit worried.

Thanks in advance.

What on earth did Jan do to you?
Sorry- couldn't resist that ;)
Can't you get a lead (think they call it a dongle) from your phone to the puter, and store them that way? I used to do that with my Nokia x

LOL, I can see why you couldnt resist it. I will see how I go about doing that. My network 02 said to store them on Blue book, but when you send them there they get dated that days date, and its the dates on these that are as important as the text in them.
Presumably the text messages can still be read on the old phone. If they are so important, why risk it?

Just get a new Sim card for the new phone - even if it means changing the number.

My sim is a contract sim. And I cant afford to keep that running and pay for another at the same time.

The reason I have to risk it is my old phone is not receiving/sending texts or making/receiving calls too good, so need a new phone.

Thanks
In my experience the texts are on the sim card, and move to the new phone when you move the card.

They certainly don't stay on the old phone if you take the sim card out - but then all my phones have required the battery to be removed to get the sim out.
Get in touch with the police who are dealing with you , explain the situation and they should be able to take the info like they do with deleted info off p.c's..........
When I put my sim into my BF's old phone all his messages were on there so I think they are stored in the phone. It could also depend on what phone you have. Mine was a nokia to a nokia.
my O2 phone has just gone in for repair. I've put my sim in another phone but the texts don't show on this one. they would stay on the old handset though so if I put my sim (or possibly anyone else's) back in my old handset the texts would still be there.
call your network and explain
you can get another sim with the same phone number
they cost
almost nothing and are given away for free by most networks anyway

thats the best move
No Leg, if another sim was issued with the same number, the old sim would be cancelled. That would mean the old phone would not fire up, so the texts would be lost.
